Course Outline

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is a Nationally Recognised qualification which will provide participants with skills and knowledge which are highly sought after by industry employers. This qualification will enable Educators to work in a senior management role within a variety of children’s services including being responsible for designing, developing, implementing and evaluating curriculum as well as supervising and supporting staff.

Entry Requirements

All participants who have successfully completed the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care qualification will receive 12 credits towards the 28 units of the Diploma qualification. Participants holding an older qualification will be required to complete the Certificate III units through gap training. All participants MUST be working or volunteering in an early childhood education and care setting for a minimum of 15 hours per week. In accordance with the Educational and Care Services National Regulations all participants must hold a current Working with Children check.

Student Commitment

  • Attend all compulsory face-to-face classes
  • Complete out of class work – average of 3 to 5 hours per week of self-paced learning including completion of assessments. Assessment methods include: case studies, role plays, written and practical assessments, observation and class participation


Nationally Recognised Training at Laurels Education and Training is delivered with funding made available by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments.
