Course Outline

Successful completion of this course will provide credits for Diploma of Early Childhood Education & Care

This course is designed to prepare students for work as an assistant in Centre Based Care, Occasional Care, Pre-school Centres, Family Day Care and other Children’s Services settings.

This entry level qualification covers workers who use organisation policies, procedures and individual children’s profiles to plan activities and provide care to children, facilitating their leisure and play and enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes.  Depending on the setting, workers may work under direct supervision or autonomously.

The course suits people seeking employment in the Early Childhood Education and Care sector or workers who are required to gain a nationally recognised qualification.

Course Delivery

This qualification is delivered in the classroom.  In addition to classroom training 140 hours of placement in a childcare environment is required. Our qualified trainer will visit you on-site at your placement to observe and assess this course.

Final face to face class: 17th October 2020
Completion: 2nd March 2021

Career opportunities

This qualification is a pathway to becoming a qualified Supervisor or Director in the childcare sector. Successful completion of the course will give you some credits toward the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

Recognition of prior learning

Participants wishing to apply for RPL will need to discuss it at the Pre-Training Review with the CEO.

To gain the qualification all units must be completed.

For partial completion, a Statement of Attainment will be issued.

Nationally Recognised Training at the Laurels Education and Training is delivered with funding made available by the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments.

Student commitment

  • Attend all face-to-face classes
  • Complete out of class work – average of 4 to 6 hours per week of self-paced learning including completion of assignments, research and assessments
  • Complete 120 hours of practical placement
