Course outline

Completion of this qualification will enable you to work as an assistant in an early childhood education and care centre. You will also require this qualification if you wish to conduct family day care.

This entry-level qualification covers workers who use organisation policies, procedures, and individual children’s profiles to plan activities and provide care to children, facilitating their leisure and play and enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes.  Depending on the setting, workers may work under direct supervision or autonomously.

The course suits people seeking employment in the Early Childhood Education and Care sector or workers who are required to gain a nationally recognised qualification.

Course delivery

This course is delivered in the classroom. In addition to classroom training 160 hours of placement in a childcare environment is required. Our qualified trainer will visit you on-site at your placement to observe and assess the course.

Times: 10.00am - 3.00pm (face-to-face) 10am-1pm (ZOOM)
Final Face to Face Class: 13th March 2025

Completion: 24th April 2025

Career opportunities

This qualification is the entry level requirement for employment into the childcare sector.

Recognition of prior learning

Participants wishing to apply for RPL will need to discuss it at the Pre-Training Review with the CEO.

Student commitment

  • Attend all face-to-face classes and ZOOM Sessions that are timetabled

  • Complete out of class work – average of 10 to 12 hours per week of self-paced learning including completion of assignments, research and assessments

  • Complete 160 hours of practical placement

  • Students will need to provide a copy of a current working with children check prior to commencing placement

  • Have access to a digital device and internet connection to be able to participate in online Zoom classes

To gain the qualification all units must be completed. For partial completion, a Statement of Attainment will be issued.
